Learning at Home

Tapestry

Tapestry is a secure, verified online learning journal that the setting uses to track each child’s development and progress, in line with the Early Years Foundation stage curriculum.

This system allows practitioners to regularly record each child’s experiences, progress and achievements in the setting by recording photos, videos and observations and uploading it to each child’s personal learning journal.

Parents will be able to access all information regarding their child’s play and learning by logging into their personal tapestry account (which will be created after the settling in period).

Parents can also upload pictures or videos via Tapestry, which gives key-workers an insight into the child's likes, dislikes, interests and daily experiences, as well as how the child's learning can be extended during their sessions at the setting.

Bertie the Bear

At the end of every week, both rooms choose one child to take home 'Bertie the bear' to foster self-confidence, self-esteem and self-value, as well as to promote positive behaviour. The children share their memorable experiences during their time with 'Bertie the bear' using the writing book provided, and they're also given the opportunity to share their experience during circle time the following week.

Home Learning Bags

At Top Tots Daycare, we encourage home learning through the use of our Home Learning Bags, which include an activity that will encourage your child's learning to develop and flourish. Home Learning Bags can include activities such as playdough, threading, pegging, cutting, tracing numbers and letters, recognising colours and shapes, and much more. Top Tots ensures that each Home Learning Bag caters to every specific child's needs and interests, and we encourage our parents to work on the Home Learning Bag activities with their children, so that their knowledge and understanding is always expanding and being revised.

Book Bags

Top Tots Daycare likes to encourage reading storybooks at our setting, and we would like our children to be able to take their favourite books home and share them with the whole family. Therefore, we have a Book Bag scheme where the children can choose a book and take it home in a Book Bag to read with their families. For our babies and toddlers, we encourage family reading with lots of expressive voices and showing of pictures to engage the younger children. For pre-schoolers, we encourage parents and carers to ask their children to recall their favourite story, or read it together and predict what will happen next. Books are an incredible way of developing literacy skills, as stated in the Early Years Foundation Stage, and we highly recommend story time at home!
